Many of you domain marketeers must have heard of domain branding using yahoo answers and twitter, but some of those guides on domains other than mine might be too long, so here is my version of domain branding using those 2 social networks.

Firstly, to brand a 'name', a person must be able to see that 'name' every way he goes. Lets take Coke as an example, suppose you have never heard of Coke before, but you see Coke banners everywhere, see people drinking Coke everyday, see convenience stores having their fridge full of Coke, one day you will sub-consciously be compelled to try this 'Coke' out right? Yep, and that's all about branding and marketing (in a really simple sense). There are many domain branding and marketing means on the internet that will do just that, and some examples are social networking platforms such as:

- social bookmarking (delicious, reddit, propeller and such)
- participating in domains and forums in your niche
- exchanging domain links with bloggers in your niche
- asking other bloggers in your niche to be a guest blogger on your domain

These means may prove to be useful to many, but look at yourself first: suppose if you are an owner of a big website company, you can just ask your fellow employees to do all the grinding right? But what if you are just a simple blogger just like me, I'm sure all of these tips many other websites suggested you to do may take you days to finish.

So whats the simpler alternative?

- use yahoo answers and twitter,
and here is how (I will do it in point form most of the time)

Yahoo Answers:

- when registered, change your display name to the domain/company name you want to use (for me, its PoomDomain)
- start answering right away
- you can only answer like 20+ questions a day, because Yahoo Answers is smart, they know how to prevent spam
- so, just answer questions that is related to your niche, or just any other question
- and here is the part:
- every time you want to answer a question, there are 2 boxes, the 'answer' part and the 'source' part.
- answer the question in the 'answer' part, and then put a catching phrase with your domain URL at the source part
- and hope that those guys click it!

This way, the person who views your answer will be able to see your domain URL every time they go to that page, and if they see enough of it, they will sub-consciously be compelled to click it, because of curiosity.

That's branding for Yahoo Answers, lets move on to Twitter

Twitter:

- lets you interact with any people registered to it, without initially knowing their email whatsoever
- register it right away, and change your display name to your domain/company name(as usual)
- start following people in your Niche by clicking on the 'find people', and then on the 'find on twitter' tab type in your niche, like for example if you like cooking, maybe you can type cooking there.
- a whole list of twitters will appear
- just follow everyone in your path
- its a twitter etiquette to follow a person who followed you, so most of the people who you followed will follow you back.
- it is also an etiquette for someone who you followed to send you a direct message to 'thank you for following me'
- and here is the part:
- when you have a lot of followers following you, just give them a 'thank you for following me' message, but instead of just a simple thank you, you write in your catch phrase and your domain URL.
- and hope that they will be attracted to click on your link

This way, you can market out your services through those short direct messages (tweets they call it), and then many more people will be coming to you site. For example, I may write 'thank you for the follow, you can go to my site if you are interested in cooking thai meals' and send it to those following me. When they get the message, if they are really interested to come to your domain.

These are some suggestions for branding and marketing. It works most of the time, but if it doesn't, please don't sue me, I'm just an ordinary guy trying to help people out. So they you go, branding using Yahoo Answers and Twitter. c u

Question by : My answers was reported by yahoo answers community? I am new to Yahoo Answers and I have been reported three times in my first two days.. Three of the answers I gave on Yahoo Answers was reported by the Answers community. The answers I gave were related to the questions but I put my own website and blog adress in the resource box. People were asking about business opportunties and affiliate marketing etc. I gave a relevant and helpful answer to their question and put my blog and website adress as a resource because they were also related and relevant with their question. I did not see anything saying that you cannot use your own blog or website as a resource in community guidlines. I know that I promoted my own business but I dont think I spam, because I really gave helpful answers and my websites were also related to the question. Do you think I did something wrong and is my community membership is under risk because I have been reported three times. Can you help me about what I can do, or If I did wrong how can I appologize and correct the situation. Thank you all in anticipation. I appreciate that you were only trying to help giving your web site and blog but it is advertising and so the answerers who reported you have treated your answers as spam. I am led to believe that some users put their links to blogs and websites in their profile and not in their answers. I think that even that is perhaps a little dodgy but at least your answers are not deleted.

Its real borderline because youre not suppose to promote your own websites etc. but I get where youre coming from. The thing you dont realize on Y!A, this site gets infested with people spamming ads for their websites. So much, some spam bots have nearly taken over the site. There's even a thread on the Y!A suggestion board, that people do nothing but round up these spammers profiles, so Yahoo can suspend their account. The business category is flooded with people posting their own sites. Some even relate, but its still spam because they post it on every question. Relevant or not. Legit or not, for this reason, youre going to keep getting reported. People are tired of these spam ads every where you look..

Putting a link to a personal website is allowed to a limit. But you can't spam, solicit, or advertise. Putting your site in answers as a response to questions asking about purchases that could be made at your site, posting a link to a purchase page, posting your site in every answer (even if related to your answer), and soliciting for clients are all not allowed. You can if you wish put your business URL and contact information on your profile page.

Even though you were trying to be helpful, someone thought you were advertising your website, so your answer got deleted. You can apoligize by making an appeal, stating what you told us. Don't worry. This isn't going to affect your membership here.

It's my understanding of guidelines it's perfectly acceptable to include in Source additional sites, including your own, when it's relevant. Either I am missing a criteria of the guidelines or you happen on some over reporting zealous-ites. You can appeal these. Especially if you feel you met the guidelines. Also, Abuse Reports are part of a large program. There aren't any actual people at the other end in real time reading the reports going, Yeah or Nay. (that's my opinion) So, appeal and bring it to a real persons attention.

This is a grey area; advertising/soliciting your own site is against the rules here, and some people will automatically report the link. However, if you're genuinely answering the question, and simply providing the link to your own site because it provides additional information the asker may find helpful, that is permitted, and you can appeal the violation. Here's an example of a couple possible answers: Not allowed: "You can find the answer you're looking for here www.yoursite.com" Allowed: "The answer to your question is blah blabbity blah blah (and you answer the question in full); if you're interested in more information on this topic, I maintain a page that you may find helpful. www._____.com." And of course, you can always include a link in your profile.
