Which Affiliate Marketing Experts Are Worth Following? [affiliatemarketingsblog.blogspot.com]

If you've been online for any length of time and you subscribe to a bunch of online marketing newsletters, you'll no doubt know there are hundreds of so-called affiliate marketing experts.

Some are real, while others are as phony as a 3 dollar bill.

When choosing someone to "follow," use commonsense. Do some due diligence on their background. Do they appear on reputable web sites?

Are their claims realistic or hype-infested?

Some people say I'm an affiliate marketing expert, but I really don't like the term. I also don't like the term 'guru.' Never have. Maybe because I've always considered myself a humble guy.

I understand that some people want to position themselves as an "expert" to gain a following. They want to brand themselves. That's OK, I guess, in as far as that goes, but it's not my style.

I like to think of myself as an ordinary guy who through a lot of trial and error, and education, and time, became a super affiliate.

So, I'm not a guru at all. In short, I'm just like you, except I have many years of experience behind me.

I truly believe that if most people went through what I went through, they would also be super affiliates and have sold millions of dollars worth of products.

I really dislike cliches, but I do honestly believe in the saying "If I can do it, you can too."

Now, when it comes to other affiliate marketing experts, I do follow many of them. I subscribe to endless newsletters. I even buy some of their courses and training material. A lot of what I've purchased is good, even if I don't like the hype surrounded by the product launches.

But if you don't let the hype get to you, you really can learn a lot from these marketers.

However, I think it's more important to watch what they do rather than what they say.

For example, if someone tells you that PPC (pay-per-click) is the best way to make it big online, but that "guru" is making all of his money by selling his product through joint venture endorsements, what he's saying for you to do is different than what he's doing to make his money

I believe strongly in article marketing as a means to drive a ton of qualified traffic and sales. And I put my money where my mouth is. Notice you are reading this article right now. You're not learning about me from a different method than the one that I advocate.

Look, I'm not saying that affiliate marketing experts who say one thing and do another are necessarily hypocrites. I'm just saying exercise a little common sense before you start opening your wallet for anything and everything.

Another pet peeve of mine is those people who show you snapshots of earnings. There's nothing wrong with this -- other than the fact that they can be easily falsified and the numbers smudged!

In the end, there are a lot of online marketing experts you can learn from, but just hold on to your healthy dose of skepticism.

Question by Tristan Lee: Affiliate marketing question(s) for a beginner. Experts please help if can.? 1. Once I put a “link” to the product on my blog website, do I earn commission for each product that is sold or just the first one? 2. My web site is unknown. How do I attract an audience? 3. Why do I need to go through a 3rd party affiliate network like clickbank or commission junction in order to promote products? Do they take part of your commission away? Can’t I just work directly with the vendors? Thank you :) Best answer for Affiliate marketing question(s) for a beginner. Experts please help if can.?:

1. It depends on the affiliate deal you've got. Some will give you a commission as long as the visitor has the cookie saying they visited your site first on their computer. Figure a few weeks for them. 2. Could write a book about that. Actually did. But focus on writing cool stuff. Get on Plurk or Twitter and make some friends. Do a little PPC if you can afford it. 3. They do take part of the commission away. But working directly with vendors is a royal pain. You'll have to work out a full affiliate agreement, etc. with them. Unless you have a lot of traffic, I'd hold off. Someday when you're getting 10,000 visits an hour you can negotiate your own deals :)

It could be pay per click, or commission on sales, or a set fee for showing the link. You will normally only getr third party unless your website is good enough to get direct linking. Usually the advertiser will suggest you go through the 3rd party first to see what the results are like, then they may deal direct. Yes the 3rd party takes part of the commission, but then they do all the work for you so it may be easier. Basically the ads should/must be targeted. You should have interesting, original articles on your site the the ads will be targeted to that subject. Have a look at my site http://www.shareworld.co.uk You will see the affiliate ads on the right hand side (Loans)

It really depends on the type of program. Additional information about affiliate marketing can be found on http://www.kissmyebook.com

1) Normally, you will earn commission from every sale of a product that comes through your link. The affiliate network, whether it's clickbank or CJ or shareasale or whomever, will send you checks on a published schedule for your sales. Nice thing is - that's ALL you have to do. You don't need to turn in orders, handle money and payments and orders - just cause traffic and sales through your site. 2) You'll need to get your site known. One way is to answer questions here and on other forums and include in your profile or your posts, your signature box, including the address of your website. IMPORTANT: When you answer questions, give the best answer you know how to give, and as thorough as you know how, because you want people to know that you KNOW what you're talking about. Then, they will possibly want to know more and click on your site. So, it's good for you AND it's good for them.. 3) As I mentioned in answer #1, by going through the affiliate network, you don't have to deal with anything except marketing of your website that has the links to the product. If you deal directly with the product provider, (which you CAN DO), then you have to be responsible to the provider for your orders, collections of money and payments, refunds, etc., etc., and so on. The small amount the networks charge before your commission is WELL WORTH it to you, as you do your job and they just send you money. While you can deal directly with the product provider, some of them won't deal with you because you're unknown and - frankly, may not pay for goods ordered, or follow through and deliver to your customer. The affiliate network makes sure there aren't problems either with you getting your money, or with the customer getting his/her product. It's a very, very good system, and I've been using it for several years.
