Question by RossenTrono: What Affiliate Marketing Programs are the Best? I built a website. I've found a long list of online companies that I can advertise with, but they all seem just about identical. Does anyone have any experience with this? Can anyone tell me about how much I can make with any program, or if any approach is better than another? Best answer for What Affiliate Marketing Programs are the Best?:

Before joining any affiliate marketing program, you first need to define your niche. Your niche is the specific type of products that your website will focus on. Examples; music, gardening, home schooling, internet marketing, etc... Once you define your niche, look for companies that sell or create products in your niche. Then make a list of these companies and their affiliate programs. Note the policies and commission percentage for each company and see what they offer in terms of text links, banner ads, support forums, and general promotional support. Select the companies that offer a fair commission and have support in place. After you have shortened your list to a few prospects, research those types of products to see who else is offering a similar product. This will help you to determine your competition. During the process of researching, you may find some other products to promote. You can check out a site called IM Reportcard to see actual reviews from people who have used many popular products. This site is mainly for internet marketing products, but it does give you an idea of the usefulness of these products based on unbiased reviews. Affiliate marketing is a broad subject and it's impossible to give you all of the details in one article. There are a bunch of large commerce sites that have affiliate programs; ebay.com, amazon.com, overstock.com. Their programs are quite advanced and they virtually sell everything so it's convenient. The problem is these programs only pay out a small commission (anywhere from 1%-10%). There are lots of other companies that have much larger payouts, but you have to search around. It's a good if you already have a direction in mind "like women's clothing lines", then start shopping around for companies are worth recommending that have good payouts. A good place to start are these affiliate brokers sites; Commission Junction ClickBank.com Linkshare.com Good Luck

If you want a list of affiliate marketing programs, your problem isn't finding web sites that will give you this information.
Your main problem will be how to actually choose programs to promote that can make you serious money.
There are scores of web sites that will list hundreds, if not thousands, of affiliate programs by category. All of these sites will list them for free, but there are nuances you should be aware of.
As one example, the ever popular CJ (Commission Junction) has thousands of affiliate offers for your consideration. Signing up for them to promote is free. However, CJ takes a cut in the middle for administering the programs for the companies who list their programs at CJ.
You never see the cut taken out. It's not unlike when you have an employer and they withhold taxes that they send to the government. You know it's happening, but you don't really 'feel' it because it's already withheld before you get your check.
However, this is an important point to raise because intellectually, just understand that a third party administrator means less dollars in your pocket because they do take a cut.
That's why I personally like to look for private, in-house run affiliate programs.
If you find the right ones, they will offer much higher pay outs because they can afford to. Not all do, so you have to develop a keen eye for what is a good affiliate program. If you want to find a list of affiliate marketing programs that are in house run, try AssociatePrograms.com, which is where I got my start at years ago.
However, you can even waste a lot of time there as there are over 5,000 programs listed. Here's how you can narrow down your considerations.
My top 3 Tips On Choosing a Good Affiliate Program
1.
Focus on programs that pay recurring, lifetime income.2. Look for higher ticket item products and a healthy commissions percentage pay out. If the average sale is $ 100 dollars and you're getting 20% to 30%, that's a nice commission.
3. Look for programs that have compelling sales copy. If the copy isn't compelling and doesn't convert well, it doesn't matter how high the average sale or percentage the company pays. Some companies will even tell you the exact conversion rates of their products to help you make a better decision. It's rare but I've come across a few that will give you this invaluable data.
Because affiliate program selection is so crucial, in my own training service, we actually take it upon our team to locate, negotiate, and find the best affiliate offers that we train students on how to promote effectively so they can get to making profits as fast as possible.
